Architecture and the senses dissertation

This dissertation focused on the exploration of potential designs that could stimulate the senses to reduce stress and aid healing. HEALING THROUGH ARCHITECTURE Architecture is judged not only with its visual beauty but also enjoyed as a synaesthetic journey by our Common Senses. The Common Senses, as defined by Aristotle of the unity of senses, is the key to join architectural space and our bodies, increasing the level of intimacy between the two to develop an all-embracing relationship. Despite fully attention of most current architects to the sense of eyesight, architecture stimulates all of our senses. This paper discusses the perception of senses in architecture, explaining how they work and influence on each other and the differences between them.
